We welcome Gregor A. Mayrhofer as our new Musical Director

We would like to share some great news with you at the end of the year: For the 2024 season, the conductor and composer

Gregor A. Mayrhofer

will take over the musical direction of HIDALGO!

We are very happy with this new collaboration: Gregor has made a name for himself internationally with his unconventional programs and formats. The Juilliard School graduate combines old and new works in particular and was nominated for the Opus Klassik in six categories in 2023. He has been commissioned with compositions by the Bavarian State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Munich Biennale, among others.

Together with our Dramaturgical Director Anne Keckeis, our Artistic Director Tom Wilmersdörffer and our interdisciplinary HIDALGO collective, Gregor A. Mayrhofer will play a key role in developing and staging the next festival in September and October 2024.

“Beauty and making music makes us feel our humanity”

Gregor says: “I am incredibly curious to discover new art spaces together with this team of such bright and motivated young artists and to create unique experiences for our audience.” Art is one of the most important elements in today’s world: While machines may soon be almost indistinguishably similar to us, the personal experience of art, the perception of beauty and making music together allows us to feel our humanity anew.

At the same time, we would like to thank Toni Ming Geiger, who was the musical director last year, for the great creative collaboration. His installation REFUGIUM was particularly successful in 2023. It toured various cities, received enthusiastic reviews and will also be on tour throughout Germany next year. We wish him a great start to his parental leave and look forward to continuing to think up new and unusual classical music formats with him in the HIDALGO collective.

We wish you a wonderful Advent season!

Best regards
Your HIDALGO Team
